Hollywood Burger Battle and Bun Fest

The largest Simon Says contest in Portland will kick off the Hollywood Boosters’ 2008 Burger Battle. Events begin with an old-fashioned cake walk, followed by wiener dog and all-breed dog costume contests. Then kids will join Tony Starlight for the largest Simon Says contest in town. Prizes just for participating.

The Bun Fest will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 1:30 pm in the Wells Fargo Bank parking lot (4233 NE Sandy Boulevard). Check out the Bun Fest Schedule!

Holidays in Hollywood

Look for vintage decorations and shooting stars on Sandy Blvd. this December as Hollywood celebrates the season with you and your family.

Veteran's Day Parade

The Veteran's Day Parade is Hollywood's tribute to the dedicated men and women who have served our country. Every year, hundreds of veterans young and old march or ride through Hollywood along Sandy Boulevard, and hundreds more people line the streets to say thank you for the sacrifices made by the members of the armed forces. This is your chance to support the people who place their lives in danger for you. Hollywood businesses plan and organize the parade every year, and arrange for flags to be posted along the parade route. This year, we are also planning a reception for veterans, their families, and anyone who wants to say thank you for serving!

The parade takes place on Sunday, November 11, 2007.

Clean Up Day

The Hollywood District is looking a little bit cleaner and shinier today. That's because volunteers swept through on July 12 for Hollywood's first Clean-Up Day in 2008. Business owner Kim Cottrell noticed problems with trash and weeds in Hollywood streets while biking to work. She decided to take action, and talked with members of the Hollywood Boosters for help in planning and carrying out a clean-up day. Click here for more information.

Junior Rose Parade

Since its inception, Portland's Rose Festival has included a children's parade. The first Rose Festival in 1907 included a parade of 2000 boys and girls representing 23 schools! Hollywood is the home of the Junior Rose Parade, which became official in 1936. Since that time, the parade has become a beloved tradition for many Portland families. Bands, school groups, scout troops, children's organizations, youth clubs, dance teams and families join in the parade. Children dress in costume, build colorful floats towed on wagons, or ride on bikes decorated with flowers, crepe paper, streamers and balloons. Watch for unicycles!

This year's Centennial Celebration promises some special nostalgic entries in the parade, including a colorful maypole and beautiful historical costumes. Make sure to arrive early for the best view.

When: Thursday, June 4, 2008. Parade starts at 1:00 pm.

Where: The parade begins at the east end of Hollywood at 52nd Ave and Sandy. The marchers head west along Sandy to 39th where they turn off to their final stop at Grant High School.

In addition, numerous door prizes are awarded throughout the evening.
